AV Integrator Spotlight | Javelin AV

Meet James Braddy, driving force behind Javelin AV. With a solid foundation in electrical engineering and a deep passion for audio, James saw the perfect opportunity to combine his technical expertise with his love for sound. Discover how his unique skillset and visionary approach are reshaping the landscape of audio-visual solutions and setting new standards for excellence.

Who you are and your background

[JB] My name is James Braddy, and I’m proud to call Eastern North Carolina my home. From a young age, I’ve always had a curiosity for how things work and a drive to figure it out. I was the kid who took apart everything I could get my hands on, eager to understand its inner workings — even if I didn’t always manage to put it back together! In school, I was the one asking questions and diving deeper into topics that sparked my interest, especially when it came to wiring and signal flow, which seemed to come naturally to me.

Driven by this passion, I pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering after high school, and to this day, I’m still captivated by learning and applying the skills I developed in college every day.

Tell us about Javelin AV and what makes you unique?

[JB] I started Javelin AV to offer a higher level of service to our local community. In this area, music stores and production installers often handle audio-visual systems, but their main focus isn’t on design, proper installation, or ongoing service. As a result, clients sometimes don’t receive the best installations or support. That’s where Javelin AV steps in. Our mission is to educate and inform our clients about their purchases and the rationale behind our design choices. We believe that well-informed customers make smarter decisions.

At Javelin AV, we stand behind our work. We offer a full one-year guarantee on all our installations—think of it as a bumper-to-bumper warranty—and provide straightforward service contracts that actually make sense. This not only gives our customers peace of mind but also demonstrates that we’re focused on building lasting relationships, not just selling equipment.

How did you get started in the industry?

[JB] In 1994, when I was just 3 years old, my parents opened a small music store right in our front yard. They started by selling strings and recording music in a tiny building. Over time, the business grew into a full-fledged company offering lessons, rentals, backline services, production, and commercial installations. As I got older, I worked across every division, even managing a site location for several years.

However, I found myself drawn more to project solutions for installations and live performances. I loved collaborating with clients, understanding their challenges and vision, and crafting tailored solutions that truly fit their needs. This passion for creating personalized solutions is something that still drives me today.

What is your favorite part of a project?

[JB] I’m fortunate to be involved in every stage of a project, from the initial consultation to the final training and ongoing service. Over the years, my favorite part has evolved. It used to be the excitement of unboxing new equipment and powering it up for the first time. Then, it shifted to commissioning—fine-tuning systems, labeling, and getting everything running smoothly like a well-oiled machine. This even includes troubleshooting when things don’t go as planned right out of the box.

If I had to choose a favorite part today, it would definitely be the final walkthrough. Whether it’s witnessing the ‘wow’ moment when the system powers on, seeing a vision come to life, or reviewing the small details implemented during installation that complete the system, I truly enjoy every moment of it.

What is the most challenging part of a project?

[JB] Budget is always a factor—if you have enough funds, you can typically solve any problem. The real challenge I face is selecting equipment that delivers the best performance at the most efficient cost, ensuring the highest possible return on investment. To achieve this, we usually present multiple design options, educate our clients on the pros and cons, and help them identify which features are essential and which can be scaled back. This way, they can make informed decisions based on their needs and budget.

How has your experience been working with lea?

[JB] I was first introduced to LEA by my local rep firm, Mavric. Initially, I was skeptical about the features, quality, and support. But I decided to order a few amps and integrate them into some installations to test them out. From the moment I opened the box, I’ve been consistently impressed with how simple it is to unbox, set up, and get the amp running. The Wi-Fi access point configuration is quick and intuitive, and it works seamlessly on any device—there’s no need to pull out a laptop just to make a quick setting update.

One feature I especially love is smart bridging. In the past, we’d have to spec a different amplifier to power a subwoofer, but with LEA, we can consolidate power in smaller jobs, saving both cost and rack space. You can run a mains, monitor, or other feed on one channel and a subwoofer with double the power on another. Plus, the ability to switch a channel to 70V makes it a no-brainer for many installations.

LEA’s support is exceptional, offering resources like online limiter calculators, links to processing files, and responsive phone support. They also provide the LEA Cloud for quick remote diagnostics, firmware updates, and system setup—saving both time and money while making support effortless.

Can you share a success story or project where LEA products made a big impact?

[JB] Every project where we’ve installed an LEA amplifier has been a success story due to the outstanding performance and reliability of these amps. However, one project that truly stands out is the Paramount Theater in Goldsboro. To read more on the project click the link here.
