A Conversation with Nick Mourn, LEA Application Engineer & Consultant Relations Manger

What’s your current position at LEA?

[NM] Application Engineering & Consultant Relations Manager.
Some of my daily duties are to provide technical assistance to customers through design support, product application, technical support, troubleshooting, and answering any technical questions they may have. I use data from my conversations with customers to assist in the development of new feature sets and new products.
I’m also tasked with interfacing with system design consultants for business development and answering any questions they may have.

What drew you into your specific field of work?

[NM] I first became interested in audio while running sound at the church I attended growing up in central Kansas. My interest in audio expanded after my family and I became more involved in productions with a local live theater group, eventually, I took on the role of technical director, in this role I gained a lot of knowledge in the real-world applications of audio. During my time at the theater, I became more passionate about my interest in audio and realized that I wanted to pursue a professional career in the audio industry.

Tell us about your background.

[NM] I started my professional career in the audio industry at StagePro Inc. where I served for 10 years as a full production technician not only deploying sound systems but also staging, roofing, and lighting systems.
From there I went on tour as a system technician on the Taylor Swift Fearless tour.
For approx. For 3 years I was an independent contractor and worked extensively as a system engineer for Thunder Audio deploying many large-scale systems all over the country.
I then toured with Metallica as a system engineer/technician for 4 years.
I was hired in 2016 by Harman Professional where I served for almost 6 years as a tour sound application specialist.

How has your background prepared you to help LEA be successful?

[NM] I have an extensive amount of field experience, this provides a real-world perspective on things which aids me in being relatable and providing positive solutions to the end-user.
During my time in the industry, I have worked on multiple large-scale successful projects from the ground up, which will be beneficial to expanding LEA’s presence in the industry.

What do you like about audio technology?

[NM] Audio technology is an essential piece of the artistic side of music, which brings me as close as I ever get to being an artist. 😉

What is the most exciting thing about joining LEA?

[NM] Being part of a team of such well-respected people in the industry that has made such an impact in such a short time.
I’m really looking forward to contributing to the team and to what LEA has to offer.
.

What are your personal hobbies?

[NM] As any homeowner knows the “to-do list” around a house is never complete, I enjoy continually working on finishing and refining the house we built-in 2017.
I’m a very hands-on type of person and I get a lot of satisfaction from doing metal fabrication, I use my metal working skills to machine and weld many different types of things in my home shop for other people and for myself.
I cherish spending time with my wife and two daughters.

Do you have any personal “tech projects” that you have worked on in the past or are currently working on?

[NM] I’m continuously updating and improving my home theater, this is the space in the house where I get to totally “geek out”.

What makes audio or audio tech so important in your opinion?

[NM] To ensure that whatever the source material is, it’s delivered in a precise and desirable way.
