A Conversation with Michael Sipe, Business Development Account Manager
What’s your current position at LEA?
What drew you into your specific field of work?
[MS] I began pursuing music and audio at the age of nine. I’ve been a pro since my late teens, a graduate of Berklee near the top of my class. After gaining early experience in studio production with some of my childhood musical heroes, I never really looked back. My music has been played by the London Symphony Orchestra, debuted live by people who once played with Miles Davis. I’ve worked as a sound engineer, in manufacturing, product design, integration, and production. With many certifications, I have a few areas of expertise that are not immediately apparent. One is RF, where I gained years of experience on the sidelines of the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl managing the coach’s headsets. Another is large system tuning, measurement and DSPs. All of these various experiences have coalesced to bring me to this new challenge with LEA Professional!
What do you like about audio technology?
[MS] I became interested in music and sound at about the same time, around 9 years old. By 16 we were building medium output loudspeakers using Thiel parameters.
What are your personal hobbies?
[MS] I travel with my wife Kate, spend time with our grandchildren, attend the Kansas City Symphony, and engage in outdoor activities including fishing and sports, as well as studio recording.
What makes audio or audio tech so important in your opinion?
[MS] People don’t often realize music and sound are part of nearly every environment we might find ourselves in.
